PROCESS & PRODUCT INNOVATION

Innovative Manufacturing Processes

Polytan’s sports surfaces are based on the philosophy of using both the best quality raw materials and best practice manufacturing processes available. That philosophy has led to the acquisition of the only Australian-based yarn manufacturer to allow us to extrude our own sports yarns.

Many new products have been delivered through Research & Development processes giving vertical integration where possible from start to finish.

No competitor can boast the extent of in-house inclusions for our products and systems – aimed at control of quality at all steps.

Manufacturing equipment and processes are constantly fine-tuned and updated to allow new products to be designed.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Behind the manufacture of Polytan’s sports surfaces are technical teams across the globe to ensure that Polytan surfaces are at the leading edge. Polytan adopts a meticulous, scientific approach to research and development of products and processes including:

  • Use of technologically advanced materials
  • Use of environmentally sustainable materials and practices
  • Durability
  • Athlete comfort
  • Playability

Rigorous testing ensures a quality product.

We test all conceptual products in various environments, then refine and retest them until the Polytan quality standard is reached. Our sports surfaces are also subject to independent sporting authority testing and performance criteria.

Our Research and Development team constantly incorporates ground-breaking enhancements into our synthetic surface products, such as:

  • Water efficient system designs, including water harvesting capability
  • UV tolerant surfacing elements to weather the harshest climate and protect your end users
  • Exclusive ‘cool yarn’ and ‘re-spring yarn’ technology for synthetic fields,
  • Optimum cushioning and spike resistance for athletic track athletes,
  • Coordinated product selection – all our products work seamlessly together,
  • Environmental sustainability using renewable resources and recycling initiatives,
  • Innovative product and field layout initiatives to reduce sport specific ‘wear areas’, and a
  • Variety of field infills to minimise heat and maximise player comfort in sports fields.

Quality is at the heart of our business ensuring consistency, reliability and durability of our surfaces.

SUSTAINABILITY

Polytan has a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and is forging a pioneering path within the sports surfacing industry. Polytan implements sustainability initiatives into construction practices and materials that are incorporated into our projects, including:

  • Use of recycled aggregates, such as recycled concrete, in pavement construction,
  • Use of rapidly renewable resources as raw materials in the manufacture of sports surfacing components, such as turf backing and adhesives,
  • Use of recycled rubber materials sourced from car & truck tyres in sports surfacing systems, including within the shock pad underlay and as performance infill,
  • Reduction in water consumption during construction activities through project phasing & staging to minimise water use,
  • Use of recycled water in construction activities where practicable and appropriate,
  • Separation of construction waste streams on-site to enable reuse & recycling where possible, such as pallet reclamation and recycling of steel components,
  • Selection of packaging materials to minimise raw material usage and to maximise either reuse or recycling potential,
  • Selection of locally available or sourced materials for construction activities where possible to minimise emissions associated with materials transportation,
  • In many instances, these sustainability measures provide economic benefits to your project as well.

WORK HEALTH & SAFETY
