Queensland State Government’s desire was to upgrade the existing elite performance synthetic track and field facility at The Super Sports Centre together with the provision of a new FIH Global synthetic hockey field for use during the 2018 Commonwealth Games and beyond. Construction of the new hockey pitch and athletics track and field is now complete, and the facilities were opened to the public on Monday, May 30, 2016.
Poligras Platinum COOLplus synthetic hockey system was selected to match the surface of choice for 2016 Rio Olympics and GC2018 venue at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre. Spurtan BV synthetic track was installed as the upgrade Surface on the athletics track, offering an excellent combination of cushion and speed for high performance training and activity. Polytan was contracted for both track & field and hockey projects located in separate areas of the Super Sports Centre. Juggling the extensive construction works in both areas, keeping the Centre functioning with its other facilities open to the public was a constant challenge throughout the six-month project. These challenges were capably managed by Polytan with their highly skilled, experienced and professional project management team.
