University of Queensland – UQ SPORT
Presented with a growing student population and tight property boundaries within Brisbane, the University of Queensland presented a unique solution to the construction of dual synthetic fields on the roof of a carpark.
Constructing synthetic fields above a post-tensioned slab creates its own problems and when coupled with strict FIH level tolerances problems were likely to occur. Polytan was able to work with the head civil contractor (McNab) to rectify these problems and ensure field certification was possible.
Poligras H2OZ COOLplus synthetic hockey system was used for the main hockey field, with Poligras 238 COOLplus and green Bionic Fibre EPDM infill used as a hybrid hockey & soccer field for field #2. With field #1 catering to the high performance hockey demands of UQ, the multi-use functionality of field #2 ensures the sporting demands of the entire UQ sport facility will be met for years to come.
Polytan are proud to have installed the sport surfaces at this state of the art facility that showcases the latest trends in elevated playing surfaces and multi-sport adaptability.
UQ Sport are true beneficiaries of the Polytan Concept to Creation experience, and found the support of our design, engineering and construction team to play an integral role in the overall success of this facility and the resulting sports surfaces.
