Installed synthetic multipurpose field at Blackman Park, NSW

Due to the demands of sporting clubs and growing community, the Lane Cove Council assigned Polytan the project to create a multipurpose synthetic surface at Blackman Park in New South Wales.

Polytan created a multipurpose surface allowing for soccer, rugby, AFL, football and cricket playability. Polytan’s synthetic LigaTurf Hybrid 60 was installed over the Schmitz Proplay shock pad. This surface meets the strict criteria requirements for FIFA Quality, World Rugby Regulation 22, AFL and Cricket Australia.

Since Polytan completed the Blackman Park project, the facility has grown on to include car parking, picnic areas, amenities block, playgrounds, basketball courts, skate park, scout hall, children’s cycle track and tennis courts. This shows that improving one feature of an area in the local community can create so much appeal and attention that further demands are sought after for more surrounding upgrades.

The showcase facility has helped unite the local community and given players a field capable for all kinds of sport playability in the one location.

Transforming the Home of Football Federation Victoria

It’s been over two years since a sporting match has been played on any of the three, Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC) fields. With 30 years’ experience in revamping Australian synthetic sporting fields, Polytan was chosen by Darebin City Council, as the sports field resurfacing company to bring back to life these three tired, 12+ year old fields. Polytan have completely transformed the largest synthetic football field facility in Australia and the home of Football Federation of Victoria (FFV).

The first challenge of the project was the removal and disposal of synthetic turf, along with the black rubber granule and sand infill. Secondly, the original free draining base on all three fields did not meet the strict level of flatness tolerances required for FIFA Quality certification. Additionally, the East and West fields were severely out of shape and needed further base remediation works. These works involved processing over 5,000m2 of the existing base material before the Triaxial Geogrid could be placed across the subgrade to provide additional stability to the free draining base while also increasing the bearing capacity.

The Northern Field (pitch no.3) at DISC was resurfaced using Polytan’s elite system – LigaTurf RS+260 COOLplus topped with premium Bionic Infill. Whereas the East – West Fields (pitch 1 and 2) were surfaced with a highly durable LigaTurf HB250 COOLplus with SBR rubber infill.

As a sustainable company, Polytan act responsibly with our environment in mind. Over 90% of the original infill and synthetic grass material were removed from the site. These original materials were reused for several other uses such as the re-installation of grass at local schools, creches and even a driving range! The recycling of this material has rechannelled over 800 tonnes of material, preventing additional waste entering landfill and thereby giving back to the community and our environment.

The three spruced up fields at DISC add to Polytan’s growing list of premium facility references, following on from the upgrade of the State Athletic Centre at Lakeside Stadium and the State Hockey and Netball Centre. Now that the three football fields have completed their face-lift, they will once again engage and activate more sport participation within the surrounding community.

LigaTurf synthetic football surfaces are preferred by professionals and amateur players alike, for their durability and playability.  Polytan are proud to empower athletes from grassroots through to Olympians to reach their full potential and greatest performance.

Knox Grammar sets about improving our young cricketers!
Sydney’s Knox Grammar School is the latest client to benefit from a sprinkling of Polytan magic, with the restoration of their new cricket practice wickets.
Years of dry weather, heavy foot traffic and general neglect had left the school’s practice wickets looking more than a little forlorn – so we were tasked with a complete reconstruction of the existing us one the way back after he Ashes disaster.
New concrete slabs were poured, to create a stable base for the top level of synthetic grass and quality SuperGrasse Shield cricket wicket surfacing installed. In addition LigaTurf, complete with rubber cushioned infill, was installed for the bowler runups pad to match the look of the surrounding natural grass pitch.
New netting was installed to divide the area into five separate cricket wickets for the College budding batsman and bowlers.
Despite weather and other challenges we are happy to report that the project was nevertheless delivered within the tight deadline!

Moore Park Golf – Centennial Park Lands, Sydney, NSW
Centennial Parklands recently engaged Polytan to upgrade Australia´s busiest golf driving range at Moore Park in Sydney. The natural amphitheatre location lends itself to be quite an outstanding range and all agreed that an upgrade was long overdue.
After many hours of trials and design alterations to optimise drainage and remedial works, and most importantly achieving the ´look´; work was scheduled to be done over a four week window that required round-the-clock activity to meet the seemingly impossible outcome and minimise disruption to the multitude of users.
The completed works were delivered on time, on budget and most importantly to the satisfaction of the Centennial Parklands Trust´s management team and Moore Park Golf operators!
Polytan are delighted to yet again work with the Trust project team following on from nearby high profile projects at E.S. Marks Athletic Centre and Moore Park Synthetic Field.
Thank you for the chance to demonstrate our true ´multi-sport´ capability and Polytan look forward to showcasing the Centre later this year!
