The Fearnley Dawes Athletics Track
IAAF Class 2 • SPURTAN • May 2017
Polytan completed a major resurfacing project of the facility in May 2017 which included a custom wheelchair sports training lane. This feature was critical for the ongoing use of the facility as a high performance training venue for wheelchair sports.
- Home venue for the Australian Wheelchair Sports Head Coach Andrew Dawes.
- Current training venue for World Championship and Paralympic Medallists Christie Dawes, Kurt Fearley and Rheed McCracken
- Sought after training venue over the summer months from Northern hemisphere elite wheelchair athletes included Josh George (USA) and in Jan 2018 the Japanese Paralympic Wheelchair development squad.
Polytan’s work has lifted the profile of the facility which in turn has led to further investment including:
- Federal Government Stronger Communities Grant to supply a wheelchair Sports Admin Office and Photo finish booth.
- NSW Government Community Building Partnership Grant to replace the existing discus and hammer throw cage with a state of the art IAAF accredited cage from Play Hard Sports.
- A local Newcastle City Council grant to supply shade structures beside the track
- Little Athletics NSW Grant to assist with the purchase of new HJ mats
- A donation by Toro Australia of a Utility Vehicles worth over $15,000
- Further cash investment by the local business community to assist with further capital and maintenance works
Since the work by Polytan works the use of the facility has increased dramatically. Key user groups of the facility include:
- Over 10000 school students attending over 25 school carnivals in 2018
- Weekly training of Athletics Developments squads from
- Hunter Sports High School
- Hunter Academy of Sport
- Newcastle Grammar School
- Regular (weekly) come and try wheelchair sports sessions conducted by Wheelchair Sports NSW. These are people new to attempting wheelchair sports. 4 racing chairs are now kept at the venue for this purpose.
- Casual training is now available 21hrs per week and over 600 people have purchased casual training passes.
- Newcastle City Little Athletics Centre doubled its numbers in its first season since the resurface growing from 100 to over 220 Little Athletes!
The Fearnley Dawes Athletics Track is growing in its reputation and usability. The unique work by Polytan has been a major driver in turning around what was only a short time ago a rundown and tired facility, now it is busy and vibrant centre of community sport in the heart of Newcastle.
The Fearnley Dawes Athletics Track was formally recognised by Newcastle City Council at their October 2017 Council meeting. It recognises 5 time Paralympian Kurt Fearnley, 6 time Paralympian Christie Dawes and Paralympic Wheelchair coach Andrew Dawes OAM.

LATHAM PARK TENNIS CENTER
OMNICOURT PRO 17 & LAYKOLD ADVANTAGE • 17 JULY 2015
Latham Park Tennis Centre was fully reconstructed in 10 weeks by Polytan. The project included: 6 new bases (Earth work, compaction, asphalt), new lighting system, 4 new synthetic grass courts and 2 new Laykold courts, as well as new fencing (new mesh, replacement of some bottom rails, new cabling).
We chose Polytan because I knew Hayden Garn from the past, he previously organised base lines repairs at Latham Park.
The biggest challenge of this project was a time frame (Christmas time etc.). Polytan provided working programs on a daily bases, which was strictly followed day-to-day from the start to the completion.
I’d like to say a special thanks to David Webster – site manager, who was on the site from 7am every day, and was in liaison with all subcontractors, also to the project manager – Michael, who was organising everything from the office and was on the site when David was sick.
Latham Park Tennis Centre has became the best Centre in this part of Sydney. People appreciate the new courts and new lighting systems very much.

NORTHERN SUBURBS TENNIS ASSOCIATION
OMNICOURT PROCOURT • 19 JUNE 2015
It is with pleasure that I write a testimonial in support of your company.
When Northern Suburbs Tennis Association approached the tender process for the resurfacing of our (5) five courts at Wheatleigh Street Naremburn, we were aware of Polytan STI. You had recently installed courts at two of our local clubs. We understood both clubs were extremely happy, not only with the final surface, but with the service that they had received.
Truthfully, we were anxious that your quote would be competitive to make our decision easy. You didn’t let us down. Your quote was not only competitive but our options were set out in a very concise and easily understood format.
As you will recall, the site had a number of problems with extensive root damage from neighbouring trees. Your team handled the process of the removal of the problems and the installation of root guards with speedy professionalism. Upon removal of the old synthetic grass, the courts obviously required work to bring the base to an acceptable standard. We were given prompt choices as to how to remedy this and again the work was carried out most efficiently.
Unfortunately the project coincided with the severe storms that Sydney suffered in early April. The tennis professional, who manages the centre for NSTA, has an extremely busy business and each day’s delay in completion of the resurfacing is very expensive for him. Naturally he was particularly stressed. Dave Webster, who was managing the project on your behalf, kept both myself and the Professional, constantly updated on progress. His updates, in each case, proved to be accurate. This was greatly appreciated by us and certainly assisted in alleviating any tension and allowed timely decisions to be made regarding alternative arrangements for the business.
I thought the surface played particularly well from Day 1 and the five courts, with the new base, are probably in the best condition they have been in since been converted to synthetic grass many years ago.
NSTA looks forward to working with you again at our other (8) eight-court centre.

POLIGRAS H2OZ • 01 OCTOBER 2014
On behalf of Ipswich Hockey Association, I would like to thank Sports Technology International for the excellence quality of work provided in the recent upgrade of our two fields. The fields were only completed in March this year, but we have already received many positive remarks about out new surfaces. We hosted the first round of the Women’s AHL competition in Ipswich on our new Poligras Olympia field in May this year, and received many complements on the field from the visiting State teams. Our second field, the Poligras H2OZ, has also been well received by our club players and we have conducted a number of intercity competitions on the field during the season.
The efforts of your friendly project and administration personnel, your team of professional contractors and dedicated surfacing installers have provided a first class result for our facility. Your attention to detail and willingness to work with our Association and our project manager to provide the best possible result is also greatly appreciated.
We would have no hesitation in recommending either of our new fields to other hockey associations.
Once again thanks for a great job well done.
Yours in hockey, John Cushing

PERSONAL TENNIS COURT
NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA • TENNIS COURT • 01 FEBRUARY 2014
Just a quick note to say how pleased we are with the court. Your team did a wonderful job, I couldn’t believe how quickly they finished. We played on the Satruday afternoon and Monday morning and have only been stopped by the rain. The court has drained well today, possibly the raid did it good, we certainly needed it for the garden.
I was most impressed at how tidy the boys left the place. When I came home at 4:30pm on the Friday except for some sand about you wouldn’t know they had been. Please thank them for me.
I would be delighted to recommend you to anyone. Peter range to check how it went and I told him how please my family and friends are with my new court.
We use it several times during the week so when you come to check would you ring me and arrange a non-tennis day.

To Whom It May Concern
Artarmon District Tennis Club (ADTC) engage Sports Technology International (STI) for the upgrading of the three (3) tennis courts at Cleland Park, Barton road, Artarmon in April 2013. We used the OmniCourt ProCourt surfacing system, which is ‘Australia Made’ for our climatic conditions and manufactured in the STI Melbourne facility.
STI delivered a high quality product and service. STI’s Hayden Garn and his team demonstrated a high level of knowledge and experience in all aspects of tennis court construction. The STI team also recently successfully upgraded the six (6) courts at Kooroora Tennis Club.
We found them reliable and easy to deal with, and they listened to our needs and worked with us to deliver our requirements and expectations.
We provide this recommendation for any prospective client and have no doubt STI will provide the same high level of service and delivery.
OYSTER BAY PUBLIC SCHOOL
OYSTER BAY, AUSTRALIA • MULTISPORT • SUPERGRASSE ECO TURF 4G • 01 DECEMBER 2013
The playground project at Oyster Bay Public School was significant.
Following tenders STI produced a quality product which meets the needs of the Oyster Bay school community. They have very successfully transformed a drab, unattractive and unforgiving playground into a surface which caters strongly for the needs of the students and staff. Students want to play on the playground now. To see them actively engaged on a safe and secure playground surface, which caters for many sports, is inspiring.
STI have changed a real negative into a massive positive. They are to be highly commended for their professionalism, willingness to compromise and positive attitude towards the project. I recommend them to you.

To the staff and management of STI
The Neutral Bay Club would like to take the time to thank you for the recent work carried out at our club. STI have done an amazing job on our new synthetic bowling green. Replacing the synthetic carpet on a bowling green can seem very daunting and stressful, especially as it’s a blowing clubs most valuable asset.
Starting with our first inquires STI made the task very easy. STI has an abundance of knowledge and always acted with only the clubs best interest first and foremost. The team that installed the green where very experience and quick working, the process ran very smoothly. At the end of the install STI made sure that we were happy with the final product, and where quick to act on any concerns we had. The quality of our new bowling green is exceptional. We would highly recommend STI to any club.
Thanks again STI

NEUTRAL BAY CLUB’S NEW GREEN Neutral Bay’s new world class green.
There have been a lot of changes taking place at Neutral Bay over the last couple of years, with the biggest being the renovation of the Bowling Green in 2013.
With the previous synthetic surface being down for 10 years, it was time for an update. The green resurfacing and upgrade works, including new drainage, was done by STI Sports and we would recommend them to any club thinking of making this change.
Their team were very professional and easy to liaise with from start to finish, the end result being that the club now has a world class bowling surface on which to play.
The Club has two very strong women’s teams and a men’s section that is rebuilding; all are looking forward to a great pennants season on the new aesthetically pleasing green.

Kooroora Tennis Club re-surfacing work
I would like to highly recommend Sports Technology International to any prospective clients.
After a thorough selection process, Kooroora Tennis Club selected Sports Technology International to resurface our 6 synthetic grass tennis courts with their OmniCourt ProCourt product. We found them to be efficient, reliable and professional in all our dealings. This started with their initial presentations and carried through to the execution of the resurfacing project in October 2012. The project was completed in 2 weeks, which was shorter than planned -a superb result. We also needed to engage Sports Technology International to do some ancillary work that was not to do with our court resurfacing but required their skills and experience – and again we found them to be efficient, reliable and extremely helpful.
Club members have been very happy with our resurfaced courts. I have no hesitation in recommending Sports Technology International to any clients who are looking for a professional organisation to surface their sports facility.
WAVERLEY HOCKEY CLUB
MOUNT WAVERLEY, AUSTRALIA • HOCKEY • POLIGRAS H2OZ • 01 JULY 2012
I am writing this letter to commend Sports Technology International Pty Ltd (STI) for the excellent work they have done in resurfacing the Waverley Hockey Ground.
The project management excellence, you’re skilled workers and the interaction with the Waverley Hockey club through the scope development, visits to your factory, contractual negotiation and the continual updates during the laying of the shock pad and the laying of the blue POLIGRAS H2OZ surface contributed to a fantastic outcome for all.
We took the gamble on the blue as it was something new, and it was the right decision.
The highlight of the project was watching the skill of your experienced installers, especially your team who laid the shock pad with so much care and precision.
All of those at Waverley hockey involved in the project were so appreciative of the laying team and the way they kept us informed at all times during the resurfacing and met the agreed time line and having the surface ready well before the 2012 season commenced.
The follow up by the STI team – Paul, Nick and Martin to check on the surface and providing feedback during the season has been greatly appreciated and the most important feedback is from the playing group who have given the finished result high praise.
I have no hesitations in recommending STI to others looking at a new hockey surface based on experience with this project.

WOLLONGONG TENNIS CLUB
HOT SHOTS COURTS • TENNIS COURT • LAYKOLD ADVANTAGE • 01 JUNE 2012
To Whom It May Concern
Tennis NSW and the City of Wollongong Tennis Club recently undertook a project to build the first eight court MLC Tennis Hot Shots Centre in Australia and engaged STI (Sports Technology International) to manage the project and construct the courts.
STI were selected as they had previously done good work for the Club and had also been very efficient in providing some initial costing’s when we were seeking estimates for the project.
The project involved;
- Repairing the base on 2 existing courts which was in need of repair
- A complete re-fence of the two courts plus the addition of a lower fence for viewing area in the centre of the courts
- Resurfacing of the courts using ITF specifications
- Sourcing and installation of nets and net posts
- Supply and install of a Hot Shots non-slip logo for the courts
As the first project o its kind, it was new to ST, Tennis NSW and the Cub but STI worked closely with the other parties to ensure that our desired outcome was reached and specifications were met. They reconginsed how important it was that this project delivered an outstanding finish as the courts would be used to promote further Hot Shot court development in NSW and Australia.
Throughout the project there was excellent and regular communication, attention to detail was met and where STI weren’t entirely happy with the outcome, they went back to get the best possible result.
We were very satisfied with STI who delivered an outstanding project to time and to budget and I would say that went above and beyond throughout the project. I would strongly recommend them for any other tennis court project, particularly where Hot Shot courts are involved and I am more than happy to discuss the project and STI’s involvement with any interested parties.

I read three testimonials on STI prior to our committee’s decision to ask your company to proceed with the resurfacing of 3 of our courts. We were impressed with the comments from your clients and your very competitive quote, and expected a first class job and completion within the time indicated.
We were not disappointed.
The three testimonials have said it all, and on behalf of our committee and members we can only add to the comments stated by your other clients. Even when you had to battle the wet weather to complete the 3rd. court you managed to keep us happy with outstanding service.
We congratulate and thank you and your crew, who we now regard as friends. When the time comes and our finances permit, to resurface our other 3 courts, any other contractor would have a tough time to compete against your reputation and our experience with your company on this occasion.
On behalf of our committee, my advice to any of your potential clients is –
Stop trying to decide, just place the order with STI. You will not be disappointed.
We are also very happy with your recommendation to use “OmniCourt ProCourt”. It is comforting on old bodies, and also great for the juniors.

Re: NEW HYBRID HOCKEY PITCH ON H1
Following our discussions I wish to congratulate STI on the quality Hybrid Hockey Pitch which you delivered and had laid on our H1 Hockey ground in 2009/2010.
Your Company was most professional in your initial approach and quoting at the tender stage. We selected your Company on the basis that the turf was being manufactured in Victoria, which was a plus as far as we were concerned. We knew that by having this facility that the product back up was assured by your local manufacture.
Your Company was able to deliver our brand new pitch both on time and importantly on budget.
The H1 ground has been used for the past two years and the players comments are that it is easier to play, does not tire them and is much more comfortable when they fall over – no grazes!
The quality and condition now is as good as when it was laid in 2009/2010. We are so happy with the outcome that we are currently advancing discussions to replace our original “Mod-Grass” sand filled pitch on our H2 ground.
I have no hesitation in recommending this Company to anyone considering laying their new Hockey Pitch or for any other use as the case maybe.

On behalf of Lithgow City Council, I would like to thank sports Technology International Pty Ltd for the high standard of professionalism shown in the recent upgrading of Lithgow’s premier hockey field.
Thanks to the marvellous efforts of your fabulous project and administration team, the attentive co-ordination of locally based and experienced contractors, and most importantly, the quality of your experienced surface installers, have provided an international standard of facility for Lithgow’s hockey fraternity.
The ability of your team to meet crucial deadline whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail was outstanding, with Council and the Lithgow Hockey Association both very pleased with the final result.
Since the completion of the project, Council has noticed a reduction in irrigation requirements for the new Poligras Olympia field compared to the existing synthetic surfaced field. This is a benefit that is extremely welcomed by both Council and the Lithgow Hockey Association.
I would have no hesitation in recommending your company to any prospective clients, and can attest to the exceptional works under taken by both Sports Technology International’s employees and sub contracts involved in this project.
Again, I would like to thank you for delivering to Council and the Lithgow Hockey Association a modern, superior quality turf that will benefit the local, district, regional and state hockey fraternity for many years to come.

PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY PLAYER, AUSTRALIA • 01 JANUARY 2009
I would like to comment on the Poligras hockey range that is supplied and installed by Sports Technology International.
My extensive international playing involvement brings me into contact with numerous types and grades of synthetic hockey turfs around the world. In recent times I have taken a greater interest into the quality of these pitches in terms of play, drainage, appearance and comfort.
The smoothness, ball bounce, speed and evenness of play on Poligras pitches is of the highest standard and urge Clubs to take a closer understanding of the technical advantages of the STI systems.
In addition there is certainly an element of reduced irrigation required for these fields which I expect would be a substantial saving to Clubs.
At the London games I was particularly impressed with the field playability and believe the STI team met the expectations of this huge event.
Knowing the technical approach of the company, I would expect their development will continue and have no hesitation recommending them and their great Poligras surfacing systems.
