Project Overview:
After the devastating earthquakes of 2011 in Christchurch, NZ destroyed many of the city’s sporting facilities, Christchurch City Council decided to build a new central state-of-the-art facility catering for many sports including hockey, tennis, and athletics.
HEB Construction Ltd sub-contracted Polytan NZ to complete the following project works for the new Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub:
• The installation of two FIH Certified hockey pitches using Poligras Platinum COOLplus
• Installation of a World Athletics certified nine lane athletics track using Rekortan G13 – the first athletics track in the region
• Construction of 12 ITF tennis courts using the Australian made Laykold Masters court system
The Results:
Since its launch in April 2019, Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub has held FIH Pro League matches, local hockey matches for Canterbury Hockey Club and local athletics competitions, and other sporting events. The Nga Puna Wai Sports Hub has brought a renewed sense of hope to the Christchurch community through sport.
