IYU Recreation Reserve
Cardinia Shire Council
Polytan was awarded the contract by Cardinia Shire Council to construct a new athletics track facility at the IYU Recreation Reserve in Pakenham. The greenfield construction project included building everything from scratch including bulk earthworks, drainage works, concrete works, asphalting works and the installation of our Australian Made Rekortan M sandwich system.
Polytan collaborated with A1 Civil to conduct bulk earthworks and establish the necessary grade and levels. Polytan’s unique methodology involved creating a solid base stabilisation that reduces cracking and falls. This ensures the longevity and durability for the foundation of the track. In addition, Polytan installed the infield drainage for irrigation and natural turf seeding, and various athletics equipment including aluminium running rails that meet World Athletics requirements.
This was Polytan’s first engagement with Cardinia Shire Council and it was positive due to our consistent and high level of communication. Hence the Council’s expectations were met and allowed for cooperation between both parties despite the project encountering delays due to extreme wet weather conditions.
Polytan has delivered a quality track that meets World Athletics requirements and will provide the Cardinia Shire Council with a durable surface for athletic events and the community. Overall, this is an excellent example of Polytan’s ability to construct a sports facility from concept to creation.
