Project Overview:

The first synthetic athletics track for the Penrith area was awarded to Polytan for the construction of Harold Corr Reserve athletics track facility in Cambridge Park, NSW. Manufactured in our ISO 9001 Facility in Dandenong South, VIC our Australian Made Rekortan M (formerly known as Spurtan BV) sandwich synthetic track system was chosen for the athletics track surface
at the facility. Also installed within the track surface is our exclusive SMART diagnostics technology measuring athletes real time results for runs, tapping step distance, agility, and jumps.

One of Polytan’s major advantages is the capability of having an inhouse design team and previous experience in constructing sporting facilities. The design, engineering and construction team are meticulous for ensuring ground levels and drainage systems are functioning effectively to prevent the facility from experiencing drainage issues and potential flooding. This capability was demonstrated in this project where Polytan conducted stormwater drainage works to capture the athletics track rainfall runoff and connection to the surrounding existing drainage outfalls.

The athletics track development contract included construction of the main track, associated lighting, natural turf infield and surrounding bio-retention basin. The extent of the works also involved demolition and earthworks including the removal of unused pre-existing facilities, topsoil strip and stockpile of material.

The scope of works also extended to electrical works to complete the installation of the 6 x Pole 100 Lux LED lighting system, pavement works including asphalt works, supply and installation of natural grass rolls across the infield area, construction of a bio-retention area which includes suitable landscaping drainage, and track line marking to meet World Athletics Class 2 and Little Athletics certification. Polytan supplied and installed long/triple jump and pole vault facilities including relevant sporting equipment to these areas. Drinking fountains were also supplied and installed in designated locations around the tracks perimeter to allow athletes to remain hydrated at the facility.

“For too long our best athletes have had to go outside of our community to reach their potential – to get access to the best facilities, the best coaches – now those athletes are going to stay here or even come here,”
– Penrith Mayor, Karen McKeown OAM

The Results:

Polytan are proud to deliver a synthetic athletics track facility that is now available to athletes and Nepean, Cranebrook, Emu Plains, Werrington Little Athletics Clubs. As the first synthetic athletic track for the Penrith City Council area the facility will also be contributing to the increase in sport participation and local economy with regional, state and school events due to be held at the facility.
