The world’s best men and woman players are again fighting out the prestigious Miami US Open on LAYKOLD Cushion-Plus in Key Biscayne, Florida. Since the tournament’s inception in 1984 it has been played on the ITF Classified LAYKOLD surface and has always attracted a large portion of the top seeds in any one-year.

From the start the LAYKOLD surface has been highly regarded by legendary players “When we got the stadium built, and players like Steffi Graf, Pete Sampras, Gabriela Sabatini, Jim Courier and Andre Agassi started saying it was one of the best center courts in the world, it changed the player’s minds, and the minds of the tours.” Buchholz said, a previous director of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).

The vibrant royal purple and green colour scheme of the Laykold surface has become synonymous with the US Open.

HOT SHOTS COURTS – WOLLONGONG TENNIS CLUB • TENNIS COURT • LAYKOLD ADVANTAGE • 21 August 2014

Being involved from the ground up is a fantastic opportunity for any development. The City of Wollongong was chosen by Tennis Australia as the location, for the first ever purpose built tennis Hot Shots courts.
Hot Shots courts are the perfect solution to creating tennis venues that are easily accessible and capable of engaging the entire community. These courts offer a solution to areas that are under- utilized and provide options to introduce new revenue streams to tennis clubs.
STI were engaged to convert two existing full size tennis courts into eight brightly coloured, size modified Hot Shot tennis courts. APTA’s ITF classified Laykold Advantage hard court system was chosen because of its high performance, durability and ability to be custom built to any desired court pace, perfect for budding young tennis stars.
The project included all preparation works (using APTA’s product range), the line system, fencing, supply and installation of posts and non-slip on-court logos, as well as providing expert training in the care and maintenance of the Laykold court system.
Brett Andrews, Facility Development Manager, Tennis NSW stated that as this was the first project of its kind, it was new to STI, Tennis NSW and the Club but STI worked very closely with the all parties to ensure that the desired outcome was reached and specifications were met. STI recognised how important it was that the project delivered outstanding finish as the courts would be used to promote further Hot Shot court developments in NSW and Australia.
‘Throughout the project there was excellent and regular communication, attention to detail was met and STI worked with us to get the best possible result,’ stated Brett Andrews.
‘We were very satisfied with STI who delivered an outstanding result to time and to budget and I would say they went above and beyond throughout the project,’ declared Brett. (Click here to read Brett’s full testimonial)

BOWRAL TENNIS CLUB • FULL CONSTRUCTION OF TWO TENNIS AUSTRALIA ‘HOT SHOT’ COURTS • 28 May 2015

Bowral Tennis Club had no hesitation on securing Polytan to quote on the proposed full construction of the two Tennis Australia “Hot Shots” courts sponsored by ANZ given our proven tennis court construction history. Polytan provided a “google earth” image showing the proposed tennis court dimensions, drainage, fencing and lighting.

Challenge:
The most important challenge for this new 342m2 tennis court surface was to create better drainage and resolve the problems caused by a flood-prone adjacent swale. The court also needed a better-performing and more aesthetically pleasing state-of-the-art LED lighting system.

Solution:
Polytan addressed the drainage issues by situating the new court from north to south and then installing a strip drain to more efficiently channel water to the existing storm water system.

Next came further earthworks and slab preparation, which involved removing turf and topsoil, before spreading the bedding sand, and putting in place a plastic moisture barrier, form work, reinforcement mesh and concrete slab.

We also installed a new black powder-coated chain mesh fencing, pedestrian gates and new winding net posts. We then conducted an acid wash and high-pressure slab clean, before applying the two-tone Laykold Advantage top coat and line-markings in Dark Blue and Kooyong Blue.

A new LED directional lighting system was also installed – which has since been given a big thumbs-up by club players!

“We couldn’t be happier with the level of service provided from the initial sales presentation through to delivery of the project. We were well informed throughout the entire project and nothing was a problem when changes were required to be made. I would recommend Polytan to anyone thinking of building a tennis court.” Amanda Denning – Bowral Tennis Club
