GARDINER PARK, GLEN IRIS • APRIL 2018

cwad-admin

It was all eyes and ears when works began in August 2017, as locals wondered what was happening to their empty park. Little did they realise this once empty reserve would become a spectacular AFL/CA and FIFA Quality certified field suitable for AFL, Soccer and Cricket playability.

LIGATURF RS + COOLPLUS WORLD CUP EDITION

The City of Stonnington awarded Polytan as the chosen surface provider for the high quality LigaTurf RS + COOLplus World Cup Edition.

This environmentally friendly heavy metal free surface was created in Melbourne, Australia meaning the council could rely on a high quality and durable product that is willing to stand the test of time.

COOLPLUS TECHNOLOGY

The COOLplus technology in this yarn reduces the surface temperature allowing for a surface that won’t get so hot in those summer months. This yarn is also protected to the highest level from any UV degradation.

DRAINAGE CELL

The high-tech drainage cell ensures that athletes are able to play and perform well in all conditions. Without this superior drainage cell system, the surface would soak up rain making it sluggish and slow to play on.

SHOCKPAD ABSORPTION

The Shockpad Pro Play 23 sits above the drainage cell and below the yarn backing to keep the surface rigid. This added layer of protection allows athletes to play as hard as they like. This enables athletes to purely focus on the game at hand, knowing they will be protected by the durable surface and shock absorbing synthetic grass surface.

DRIVE CAREFULLY ON THE MONASH!

Drivers will have to take extra care and keep their eyes on the road for as long as they can when passing Gardiner Park, Stonnington on the Monash Freeway because this new facility is bound to catch your attention!

Transforming the Home of Football Federation Victoria

It’s been over two years since a sporting match has been played on any of the three, Darebin International Sports Centre (DISC) fields. With 30 years’ experience in revamping Australian synthetic sporting fields, Polytan was chosen by Darebin City Council, as the sports field resurfacing company to bring back to life these three tired, 12+ year old fields. Polytan have completely transformed the largest synthetic football field facility in Australia and the home of Football Federation of Victoria (FFV).

The first challenge of the project was the removal and disposal of synthetic turf, along with the black rubber granule and sand infill. Secondly, the original free draining base on all three fields did not meet the strict level of flatness tolerances required for FIFA Quality certification. Additionally, the East and West fields were severely out of shape and needed further base remediation works. These works involved processing over 5,000m2 of the existing base material before the Triaxial Geogrid could be placed across the subgrade to provide additional stability to the free draining base while also increasing the bearing capacity.

The Northern Field (pitch no.3) at DISC was resurfaced using Polytan’s elite system – LigaTurf RS+260 COOLplus topped with premium Bionic Infill. Whereas the East – West Fields (pitch 1 and 2) were surfaced with a highly durable LigaTurf HB250 COOLplus with SBR rubber infill.

As a sustainable company, Polytan act responsibly with our environment in mind. Over 90% of the original infill and synthetic grass material were removed from the site. These original materials were reused for several other uses such as the re-installation of grass at local schools, creches and even a driving range! The recycling of this material has rechannelled over 800 tonnes of material, preventing additional waste entering landfill and thereby giving back to the community and our environment.

The three spruced up fields at DISC add to Polytan’s growing list of premium facility references, following on from the upgrade of the State Athletic Centre at Lakeside Stadium and the State Hockey and Netball Centre. Now that the three football fields have completed their face-lift, they will once again engage and activate more sport participation within the surrounding community.

LigaTurf synthetic football surfaces are preferred by professionals and amateur players alike, for their durability and playability.  Polytan are proud to empower athletes from grassroots through to Olympians to reach their full potential and greatest performance.

Arlington Reserve is a popular playing field in Dulwich Hill.
During the Summer Season (September–March) the playing field is used on average for four hours per week. In the Winter Season (April–August) it is used an average of 22 hours per week.
Council proposed upgrading Arlington Oval using a synthetic surface in 2009 due to the unplayable condition of the turf field and high ongoing maintenance costs.
Following extensive community consultation, Council resolved not to proceed with the artificial surface. Instead, it endorsed the full reconstruction of Arlington Oval´s playing field including laying new sports-quality turf grass, state-of-the art grading and levelling, and a new drainage and irrigation system.
Despite these efforts and ongoing maintenance, the condition of the playing field has deteriorated, resulting in the same hazardous playing conditions. Council has revisited the issue as it needs to achieve a sustainable alternative.
In the 2010 winter season Dulwich Hill Football Club moved all scheduled home games from Arlington Oval for the second half of the season to alternate grounds as the surface was deemed unsafe for use due to the lack of grass coverage.
Marrickville Council wrote to residents around Arlington Oval in December 2012, advising of a Council decision to further investigate turf options, and seek expert opinion on the health, environmental, heritage and social/urban impacts. Council also resolved to conduct more frequent patrols of surrounding streets and lanes to enforce parking restrictions and will monitor dog faeces on the pitch.
In 2014 Marrickville Council awarded STI the works to upgrade the facility from natural turf to synthetic.  The project was completed in July 2014.

Porirua Synthetic Sports Field Community Trust has been working with the local community on the development of new facilities, for the community at Ascot Park. The redevelopment began in March 2013 with the full construction of a two new artificial turf field, complete with detailed drainage, perimeter footpaths and entranceways and lighting towers. Both fields meet FIFA Two Star and IRB compliant multi-lined rugby league, soccer and rugby field standards including the warm up areas.
The upgrade was awarded to STI NZ, including nearly 11,000m2 of APT’s LigaTurf RS+ 260 COOLplus synthetic surface for the multi-sport field including rugby and football!
Despite significant challenges encountered through weather, STI managed to accelerate the programme to the point where E-layer shock pad was being installed just eight weeks after commencement!
Made possible due to the following:
•  Specialist subcontractors engaged for all aspects of the scope of works.
• Coordination by STI’s full-time site manager to ensure the interface between all trades resulted in no lead times.
• Communication and cooperation by all subcontractors and an ability to work with each other to accelerate the programme.
•  The use of an asphalt paver, controlled by STI’s laser control technology for the final 30mm layer allowing the commencement of the E-layer shocked at the same time.
Congratulations to the team, the construction and installation was completed in just 14 weeks of actual construction time, four weeks earlier than originally anticipated!
