Project Overview:
Pioneers Park is a popular sporting field in Malabar. The fields are divided into the upper park and lower park. The upper park is used for AFL and cricket, while the lower park is primarily used for rugby league. Randwick City Council awarded Polytan Asia Pacific with the contract to build a new synthetic field and a new natural grass field.
The project included:
• A complete upgrade (including full construction) of field 2 using the Australian made LigaTurf HB250 synthetic grass system which features a World Rugby regulated force reduction shock pad layer
• The returfing of natural grass on field 1 which included an eight-week maintenance period to promote and sustain grass growth.
The Results:
The new all-weather synthetic field provided more opportunity for community groups to take advantage of the facility throughout the year, with less cancellations due to wet weather. Plus, the redevelopment of the sports field reduced maintenance costs. Works commenced in December 2020 and took a year to complete.
