Project Overview:
As part of a major upgrade, Polytan installed a FIFA-certified Ligaturf HB250 synthetic football field within the athletics infield. Designed for school and community use, the surface offers outstanding playability, durability, and performance.
The project included full civil construction: drainage, retaining walls, concrete, asphalt, surfacing, line marking, and equipment installation.
In addition, Polytan installed a Rekortan M track, which combines high performance with excellent shock absorption and longevity, making it ideal for both training and competition.
This project presented some challenges due to tight site access between school buildings and Nepean Highway required careful logistics. The expanded footprint necessitated a 3.5m-high retaining wall at the northern bend. Ground stabilisation was complex due to existing design subsurface drainage, but Polytan delivered a robust, long-lasting base.
Existing fencing and retaining walls conflicted with the new footprint and required full removal and upgrading. When it came time for the track installation, the hillside setting required careful grading, supported by a major retaining wall around half the track. Base works demanded precise sequencing to ensure stable pavement layers and optimal conditions for the high-performance Rekortan surface.
Technical Highlights included a free-draining base channels water into french drains, discharging into a grassed area for effective stormwater management. Remote-controlled LED lighting ensures competition-standard illumination, energy efficiency, and automated curfews.
A two-tone blue Rekortan surface was installed: Rainbow Blue for competition areas and Hertha Blue for the surrounds, creating a visually striking and modern look. Custom inlays included the school’s crest and lettering, providing a unique signature feature. A detailed drainage system ensures water is rapidly removed from the track surface, preserving performance in all weather.
The Results:
Custom turf branding features the school crest and lettering for a unique identity. The new Ligaturf HB250 infield is already in regular use, providing a world-class, high-performance facility that will benefit students and the broader community for years to come.
The Rekortan M track provides Peninsula Grammar with a modern, all-weather athletics facility that supports PE classes, training, and school sporting programs. Already in daily use, it gives students a reliable, professional-quality surface for sport and recreation while ensuring long-term durability.
