Project Overview:
Polytan collaborated with Australian National University to upgrade the existing soccer fields at Willows Oval in Acton, ACT to include organic infill. The project started on 20th November 2023 and reached practical completion by 29th February 2024 demonstrating Polytan’s efficiency and ability to exceed client expectations within a short timeframe.
The works involved removing the aged synthetic surface, which was then recycled at RE4ORM’s Synthetic Turf & Recycling Facility in Barnawartha near the Victoria-NSW border. Polytan’s innovative practices and care in removing the existing surface allowed for 95% of the existing shockpad to be re-used. Testing was undertaken by an accredited Test Institute and high-usage areas replaced to prioritise player safety, followed by the installation of our Australian Made LigaTurf HB250 synthetic grass system.
The Results:
Meticulous planning was key throughout the project with a focus on site establishment, environmental protection, and responsible waste management given the tight access to site and nearby childcare centre. The project also included comprehensive fencing works including the installation of new fencing and gates, adjustments to existing structures, and specialised barriers to protect against tree roots. Shoe grates were strategically placed at entrances to ensure cleanliness and safety while soccer goals were installed to complete the field.
