Polytan STI has recently completed an upgrade of the Victorian State Hockey Centre main competition field in stunning new dual blue colours. Indeed this provides our home State Centre with a sneak preview of the Rio Blue field colour, with an alternative blue surround.

This is the first installation of this exclusive colour for Australia. The alternative blue surround runoff areas is a good innovation that suits the Melbourne venue. In addition this is the first Australian installation of the Poligras Platinum COOLplus surface – as proposed by Polytan STI for Rio! Two previous installations have been done in New Zealand and the playability on those fields has been outstanding. As a result this premier hockey venue has the latest technology with proven performance.

This follows up other State and Territory Hockey Centre references for Poligras at Queensland, NSW, ACT and South Australia!…

The reconstructed synthetic athletics track at the Griffith University, was completed in November 2013 & officially certified to IAAF standards following an inspection of the facility by the IAAF certified independent certification body in April 2014.

An official presentation of the IAAF accreditation was made to the Gold Coast City Council, Manager of Community Venues and Services, Darren Langen, by Polytan STI Sales Manager, Rob Kirkwood, earlier this year.

The Spurtan® BV synthetic track system is suited to all levels of competition. This unique sandwich track system is a popular all-weather track system offering a uniform finish, meets IAAF Certification and is cushioned enough to train on, yet fast enough for competition performance.

“We are very pleased with the finished track as well as the professional way the Polytan STI team returned the track back to new.”

“The newly upgraded track is extensively used by the local community. The Gold Coast International Athletic Centre track is back at the top of the game when it comes to track and field sports facilities. The facility caters for the full range of athletes – superstars to beginners and we could not be happier with the works done by Polytan STI”, Langen said.

The redeveloped synthetic football pitch at the AIS, Canberra, was officially certified to FIFA 2 Star standard following an inspection of the facility by the sport’s world governing body.

The new generation synthetic pitch is the only one of its kind in Australia and is identical to the training surface used by German glamour club Bayern Munich.

Polytan STI Sales Manager, Rob Kirkwood, made an official presentation of the FIFA 2 Star accreditation to the Australian Sports Commission’s General Manager Corporate Operations, Steve Jones, on 19 December 2014.

“This pitch has already been used by the Australian women’s team, the Matildas, and the AIS-based Football Federation Australia’s Centre of Excellence and all reports have been very positive,” Jones said. “It will continue to be used by some of the country’s finest footballers but it is also a community facility, available for hiring by local and visiting teams and community groups who can enjoy the many benefits of this outstanding multi-use surface.”

The surface is cooler to play on in extreme summer heat, due to the revolutionary EPDM Bionic Fibre infill, and eliminates the odour, appearance and environmental concerns associated with black SBR rubber infill.

The upgraded pitch was completed in May 2014 with the FIFA inspection undertaken a few months later.

The surface is similar to that which the Matildas will play on in next year’s Women´s World Cup in Canada, where the tournament will be played entirely on synthetic pitches.

The hockey competition will take place at the Olympic Hockey Centre, in Deodoro Olympic Park, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. It will feature the 12 best men’s and the 12 best women’s teams from around the globe, with competition running from 6 – 19th August 2016. Stephen Niven, CEO of Sport Group Asia Pacific, is excited about the announcement and Polytan STI’s involvement in the project and said, “As the first Olympic Games in South America, this tournament represents a significant milestone in sporting history. SINGLETON Tennis Club is starting the New Year with a bang, well more a laying down thanks to the returfing of two of its courts with synthetic grass at a cost of $46,200.

The work which will take five days to complete started this week and was made possible thanks to a $20,000 grant from the Singleton Sports Council.

And this work is just the start of a big refurbishment program planned for the club this year. Council approval has just been granted for $127,000 worth of works on the site that include extending the Pro-Shop, building a new green keepers shed and adding lighting to the natural grass courts.

The last project is something really special as the lights will most likely make the Singleton Club the only one in the state to have lights operating on grass courts. Other work included in the development approval is the construction of two “Hot Shot” courts designed specifically for the modified junior game. These courts are smaller in size, have a lower net and the players use smaller rackets and softer balls making it the ideal introductory tennis game for the younger players.

Singleton Club, treasurer Mark Rix said the work already carried out at the club which included $37,000 spent last year on lighting upgrades, was all part of the club’s five year management plan to improve access to junior and senior players, provide excellent facilities for playing and coaching and increase membership. “Thanks to our coach Gary Brenton from the Hunter Tennis Academy our coaching business continues to grow and that’s great,” Mr Rix said. “But like most local sporting clubs the challenge is to find ways to improve and maintain our sporting facilities”. “We will continue to apply for grants to assist our efforts because good tennis facilities don’t come cheap”. Mr Rix said the club had resurfaced two courts four years ago for $40,000 and since that time the cost of replacement turf has risen by around 13 per cent.

The latest work is being undertaken by Sport Technology International a Sydney based company recommended by Tennis NSW. The choice of turf is Omnicourt Pro. Mr Rix said the club wanted to thank the extensive research work undertaken by committee member Paul Brown. “We wanted to get the best product at the most competitive price and Paul did a great job looking at everything on the market and doing the sums for us,” he said. Next week coach Gary will be heading to Melbourne for the Australian Open with six juniors and 12 senior players who will not only be watching play but also being able to play tennis each day and have coaching sessions with the coaches from Tennis Australia.
