Project Overview:
Polytan constructed a year-round, all-weather facility, capable of hosting football (soccer), rugby union and AFL during winter months, with touch football and cricket during summer. Blackman Park is now a showcase facility for the Lane Cove Council and is one of the largest sporting and recreational parklands within council’s management.
Polytan’s synthetic LigaTurf Hybrid 60 surfacing system was installed over a prefabricated 23mm ‘Schmitz Pro-Play’ shockpad and patented 20mm drainage cell system. Completing the surface with kiln dried sand stabilisation and performance infill, this synthetic facility has been built to withstand even the heaviest deluge; whilst meeting the performance criteria for FIFA Quality Program, World Rugby Regulation 22 and AFL/Cricket Australia.
Polytan’s commitment to our after sales service, saw Council officers trained in the correct maintenance techniques, enabling them to perform effective regular servicing of the synthetic sporting surface. In turn, Lane Cove Council are now maximising longevity of the surface and maintaining optimal playing conditions for all users
The Results:
Blackman park has since grown to include car parking, picnic areas, an amenities block, playgrounds, basketball courts, a skate park, scout hall, children’s cycle track and tennis courts.
- Polytan supervised the construction of the concrete slab, to ensure surface level tolerances and drainage system requirements were met
- Design and construction of a hydraulic cricket wicket to provide the flexibility to change between sporting codes each season – The very first to be installed within Australia!
- Supply and installation of removable rugby and soccer goals, along with full size AFL goals with onsite storage facilities
- Maintenance of synthetic surface for 2-years and training of Council staff in correct maintenance techniques
