We may have had many names over the past 25 years, but we’ve always been the leader in our field.

In 1998 leading synthetic turf manufacturer and a highly regarded sports facility construction company merged to form Sports Technology International (STI). Advanced Polymer Technology (APT) controlled the manufacturing division with STI (later to become Polytan) managing the construction side of the business. The enigmatic and symbiotic nature of the business produced success after success, making STI the market leaders in synthetic sports surfaces and sports facilities.

In 2008 STI was purchased by German-based global equity fund Sport Group GmbH, which owned several other sports related companies at the time.

One of these companies was Polytan – Europe’s leading synthetic sports surfacing company, and before long STI began to strategically align themselves with Polytan, before officially rebranding to Polytan in 2014. In 2019 Polytan celebrated 50 years of making sport.

As a member of Sport Group, Polytan and its customers benefit from Sport Group’s unique fully integrated global supply chain.

Today Sport Group proudly owns Polytan, APT, AstroTurf, Melos and SYNLawn, making it the world’s largest business dedicated to sports surfaces. Sport Group is the only company in the industry to offer a fully integrated global supply chain, which means Polytan can deliver unmatched quality control and complete customer transparency.

Our world-renown surfaces including Poligras, LigaTurf, Rekortan and Laykold, are made in Australia through APT Asia Pacific’s ISO certified manufacturing plant in Melbourne. APT Asia Pacific is also the only synthetic turf manufacturer to make yarn in Australia.

Today Polytan has regional offices in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with a network of 500 employees and contractors across the globe.

This global network combined with expert local knowledge is what enables us to work on some of the world’s most exciting and challenging sporting projects.
